Fishfingers cost 5p each, the dinnerlady slid in a free one as it was a little charred. The canteen at Tonypandy Lower Comp was serve-yourself with seemingly endless choice of beige boiled and fried stodge - all of it delicious - or lush as we used to say in the Wales of my childhood. And of course we didn't artfully place our condiments over the food.
